LHS – The fastest in Northern Ireland

A car designed and built by LHS pupils was officially declared the fastest in Northern Ireland at the F1 in Schools Challenge.

On Wednesday 7th December our car designers left Limavady High at 8am. This was the first time any of us had experienced ‘the Formula One in Schools Challenge’. There were 25 teams entered in the competition and it was a 25m track. Both cars were propelled down the track by a standard CO2 canister. Our fastest car approached 60mph covering the track in a staggering 1.175 seconds!
This was an amazing experience for all involved and we thoroughly enjoyed the days racing. We intend to return next year to defend our title and will enjoy the luxury of more time to prepare an even faster car!

‘A-Team’ – Dean McInnes, Jonathan Montgomery, Gareth Blair, Gareth McElhatton, Steven Moore and Drew Donaldson.

‘Merlin’ – Martin Caldwell, Gareth Burns, Jack Brudell, Mark Hamilton, Geoff Pearson and Ryan Moore.
