Limavady High again proved that they have what it takes to compete with the best in car design. Chris Hynds (Team Captain), Allen Robinson, Scott Adair, Tom Forrest, Luke Hasson and Richard Irwin describe the experience.
After months of hard work under Mr Young’s guidance, race day finally came. We woke at 6am, met in school and left for the Ulster Folk and Transport Museum to race in the new Jaguar Sports GT Competition. We set up our stand, raced and gave our presentation to Jaguar”s top car designers – a lot of pressure but we were well trained by Miss Miller. Mr Campbell helped produce an extremely impressive DVD using the video clips of us working.

LJN deSIGNS did a fantastic job of the decals on our car and helped with outr exhibition stand and podium. We were all looking extremely impressive in our jackets and shirts, which had Limavady High, the name of the car (MIST X50), and our sponsors embroidered by Liam at Eglinton Embroidery.
After our presentation the judges went through our portfolio and were very impressed with our business cards. Thanks to Speediprint for all their printing services. Our class went on a day trip to the NWIFHE where we manufactured our wheels on the amazing Rapid Prototyping machine with help from Kieron Laffery.
Conann Fitzpatrick was only too happy to help produce an animation of our car. This was added to the DVD and can now be seen on the plasma screens in the school foyer.
We were over the moon to achieve 3rd position in N.Ireland and collected the Jaguar Regional Finalist Trophy on the podium. Some of the day”s other highlights were seeing Michael Schumacher”s car and testing our car in the wind tunnel.
Thanks again to all our sponsors, without their help we could not have performed as well as we did in the competition.
