Rock Challenge ‘08

This year Limavady High School put together a team of pupils from Limavady Grammar School, St. Mary’s School Limavady and Limavady High School to compete in the world renown Performing Arts competition, ‘Rock Challenge’.

The team consisted of 62 dancers, 10 costume/hair and make up artists, 20 stage crew and seven staff. This team worked solidly together for three months to create an 8 minute performance that we would take to the Waterfront Hall stage in Belfast.

Our theme title was ‘Crossing Bridges’. We focused on challenging stereotypes and celebrating our differences through dance. We created our own original sound track and used the theme of ‘Danny Boy’, as it was first written down in Limavady. It is a song that unites the people of Limavady, no matter what their religion or background. It was a great way of bringing our pupils together.

The whole experience was magical. The pupils absolutely thrived during the whole process and it gave them a real high as they strived for perfection in their routine. The overall experience has been a huge success for the team and for the schools in Limavady.

We won the following Awards;

‘PSNI Award for best Lighting Design’

and the

‘Belfast City Council Award for Concept Originality’
