Year 9A3/4 Art trip
Pupils in Miss Cassidy’s 9A3/4 Art class participated in a guided tour of the beautiful historical Roe Valley Hospital (Limavady Workhouse) by Mr Damien Corr; Manager of the building, on Tuesday 31st March 2009. The workhouse is the best surviving example of a workhouse in Ireland and recently featured in the BBC1 programme ‘Northern Ireland’s most haunted buildings’. Unfortunately there were no ghosts spotted during the tour, however pupils thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to admire the buildings beautiful architecture, and gain an insight into the dreadful hardships encountered during the workhouse years when they bravely ventured into the ‘Punishment Cell’ in the Gatehouse and visited a dormitory area where some of the inmates would have slept. They also watched a very poignant video featuring stories of the workhouse days, and viewed original documents from the 19th century. Pupils have recently completed some art work based on their tour of the workhouse, and Mr Damien Corr has kindly agreed to display a selection of the best work in the building.
