All Year 12 pupils met in the Assembly Hall on Friday, 4th December for some guidance from Pat Jamison, Sentinus, on how best to present themselves on an application form and during an interview. After lunch, the year group was split into small groups of 5-6 and went off with an advisor from industry to do individual interviews based on application forms filled previously. The whole day was a great opportunity for pupils to learn how to cope in a real world situation which is becoming ever more imminent as they approach their GCSEs and start to think about next steps in terms of progression routes.
Pupils said the following about the day:
‘I should have researched the job more fully so that I could have given much more information on what I intended to do in the future’ – Thandeka Higgins
‘In the future I would have a lot more confidence and be less nervous because there was no need for too much nervousness’
‘ I will wear more suitable attire such as polished shoes, a tie, a shirt, smart trousers and maybe a jacket’ – Chris Young
‘I have learned that interviews aren’t that bad and that learning how to do a good interview is easy as long as you calm yourself’’
‘If you can’t think of an answer, don’t rush into saying something. Take your time and think. It is OK to ask for the question to be repeated. Be myself’’
Overall, it looks like the Year 12 pupils have picked up a lot of valuable tips to make their performance even better when it matters.
