It may have started off overcast but the sound of samba drums and the palpable excitement of the primary school pupils, divided into their chosen countries, soon meant Limavady was wakening up and taking notice of the parade in the street that meant the day had begun.
The horn signalled the start and the staff of Limavady High rolled into action. From bench ball to the longer jump, from domes and dishes, to human ladders, this unique event made its mark. The brainchild of Mr Michael Allen and a year in the planning, the ocean of coloured t-shirts representing their country of choice were having a ball, as were the staff of all schools! This was Olympic spirit in action and a memory these pupils will never forget especially commemorated when they received their very own medal at the end of the day.
The finale was a major dance by everyone involved to the song, ‘Everyday I’m Shuffling’ by LMAFO, led by our very own dance teacher, Miss Charlene McLaughlin. What a sight to be behold!
A big congratulations to Mr Michael Allen for seeing all his hard work pay off as well as to the staff of Limavady High for rising to the occasion! Many thanks to our sponsors: JKC Specialist Cars, Valley Computer Systems, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Northern Bank, Limavady Borough Council and Rotary International as well as to the local community. A day to remember!
