Curriculum
Limavady High School’s Curriculum and Policy on Learning, Teaching and Assessment is based on a set of Principles and Purposes to promote learning for all.
KEY STAGE 3 CURRICULUM
Years 8, 9 & 10
All students will follow a common course which will consist of the following subjects.

Year 8 will be divided into three bands of ability, with the possibility of setting for core subjects.
Years 9 and 10 are divided into broad ability bands. All pupils are given full access to the whole curriculum
GCSE CURRICULUM
Years 11 & 12
11A and 12A
Theses classes study a minimum of 8 GCSE subjects. The following are compulsory GCSE subjects:

Year 11 & 12 pupils now have a further option, to choose an Occupational Studies course at Level 2, delivered in Limavady College of Further & Higher Education on a one-day week basis. The following options are currently offered in the College:

Other subjects studied by these classes are:
Learning for Life and Work, Careers, Physical Education and Religious Studies.
11L & 12L
These classes undertake an occupational studies course in Limavady College of Further & Higher Education in one of the following vocation areas. This involves spending 20% of their curriculum time at lessons in the college and 20% at work experience.

All pupils in these classes study Learning for Life and Work, and have the opportunity to participate in a personal development course entitled “Growning Learning and Developing”.
SIXTH FORM CURRICULUM
Years 13 & 14
Limavady High offer a range of GCE ‘A’ Level and GCE (Applied) courses, some in conjunction with our partner schools and colleges in the Limavady Learning Partnership (Limavady College of Further & Higher Education, Limavady Grammar School, and St Mary’s)
The GCEs (Applied) are Level 3 courses related to a broad area of the world of work, designed to allow a student to progress to a course in Higher Education or a responsible position in employment. They are Advanced Level courses, containing three basic units and are graded from A to E

Enrichment Courses in Financial Studies, Young Enterprise and Physical Education are also offered, as are Essential Skills course in Numeracy and Literacy..
Pupils who wish to return for further study must apply officially. The Board of Governors will grant permission to return when it is satisfied that: the student has worked in a satisfactory manner during the previous two years the extra year will be to the student’s advantage, providing a logical progression route to further training, education or employment.
