Art
What is Art and Design?
When we ask our new Year 8 pupils they often say, “drawing”, “painting”, “making things”. Whilst this is true, we hope they realise by the end of their Key Stages that it is about all of these things and much much more!
At Limavady High School we believe that Art and Design has a lot to offer pupils of all ability levels. The study of Art and Design helps pupils to develop their sense of identity and belonging, as well as helping them to explore their curiosity about the world around them. Most of all it can be confidence building and promotes self esteem. We are very proud of the achievements of many of our pupils over the years.
Pupils and parents are often surprised to know that there are over 80 different careers which can be chosen from a background in Art and Design.
Currently we have many students at various colleges and universities throughout the UK who have decided to extend their study of this subject.
All pupils study Art & Design at KS3. At KS4 they can choose to study the subject at GCSE level. After this they can go on to do AS and A2 level Art and Design. Pupils follow the CCEA NI Specifications for all of these examinations.
As well as art work being displayed in the art rooms, pupil’s work is also displayed around the school. This contributes to and nurtures the creative ethos at the heart of our teaching and learning.
Pupils also have the chance to participate in various competitions and have opportunities to visit exhibitions, both locally and province wide.
A selection of pupil’s recent work can be seen in our virtual gallery.
