Within Limavady High School, Careers Education and Guidance aims to help each pupil establish a viable career plan through a holistic approach which addresses personal development, employability and study skills in addition to careers research through a variety of practical activities, delivered during timetabled careers lesson and supplemented by:
- A module of work designed to aid Year 10 pupils in making GCSE choices
- Key Skills activity day
- Work experience for Years 11 and 13 (including voluntary placements)
- Interview Skills Days
- Study Skills Day for Year 12 with follow up activities in Year 13 and 14
- Individual interviews with Careers Adviser for all Year 12 pupils
- A programme of support for students making application to university
- A bi-annual Careers Convention
- A varied programme of focussed careers talks reflecting the interests of pupils
- A wide range of visits to local businesses and institutes of further and higher education
- Access to a wide range of computer software and printed resources
The Careers programme is enhanced by close co-operation with training organisations, including Sentinus, Young Enterprise and the Cocoon Group, representatives from local businesses and public service bodies, including the Army, Royal Navy, Royal Air Force and by support from the Careers Service, Northern Ireland.
