Winning Boy's Review
Matt’s Million
Craig Douglas 10A1
The book I have been reading is in the fiction genre. The name of the
book is called 'Matt's Million'. It was written by Andrew Norris. I haven't
seen any other novels that this writer has written but he probably has
written others.
This is the most interesting and exciting novel that
I have ever read. I liked this book so much I have read it over six times.
I first read
this book in primary school but when I came across it in Limavady High
School's library I have been taking it out ever since.
The main characters in the story are Matt, Claire, Matt's mother and
Mr Wattis. Matt is my favourite and the most interesting character because
he likes a lot of adventure and cool stuff that normal boys would like.
The story is about a young boy named Matthew Collins
but his friends call him Matt. It starts with him going into the kitchen
to have his
breakfast in the morning and his mother handing him a letter. He opens
the letter to find a cheque for £1,227,309,07. He finds out later
that he got the money by inventing a very addictive game called Virus.
Large cheques keep coming in and his bank account total
keeps getting bigger and bigger but there a catch, his mother is in charge
of what
he does with the money until he's 18 years old. Luckily she allows him
to spend the interest, which is a large, large sum of money.
He buys things that he used to not be able to afford eg a bike, a Rolls
Royce and he even goes on a £5,218.57 shopping spree. But the most
worthwhile thing that he spent his money on was his own house.
The reason he bought his own house is because his mother was in a lot
of debt. Although he was extremely tempted to buy a large mansion with
a lot of eye catching things at it, he bought his own house for his mother's
sake, which made her so happy. He was also still living beside his best
friend Claire and Malt and his mother were having a better life, but
will Matt keep on enjoying the money, or will he get a bit tired of it
and wish he had never invented the game?
The opening of the novel is very good because it makes you want to keep
reading on. The whole book is a real gripping page-turner.
One of the things I would change if I had a chance would be the car he
chose to hire. If I were him I would have hired a really posh, expensive
sports car like a Ferrari Enzo or something like that.
I would give this book a 5 star rating and 10 out of ten because this
book is brilliant. I would recommend this book to everyone.
