Subject Overview

Music is an enriching and valuable academic subject which helps pupils develop self-confidence, discipline, self-expression and commitment.
In Limavady High School, all pupils in KS3 study Music. They learn how to read and write music and they study music from a range of different genres and cultures. We teach keyboard as the main classroom instrument, and over three years pupils build a repertoire of pieces reflecting their skills. We incorporate music technology into lessons using the iMacs, allowing pupils to develop composition skills using GarageBand and Sibelius 7.
Music is also offered at GCSE and A Level.

LHS Music Department is an exciting department offering a range of extra-curricular activities. Our school choir performs annually at school events and in the local community. Our school musical generates excitement as pupils commit to rehearsals and tread the boards. Pupils are often heard singing the main songs everywhere they go!
We run lunch time concerts in the library once per term where pupils are given the opportunity to perform for their peers in a relaxed and supportive environment.
Pupils develop confidence and creativity by getting involved in extra-curricular activities.
